The ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ consisted of preaching, healing and teaching. Offering heath and healing is the demonstrative of God’s love and care to the poor marginalized and the humanity. Thousands of sick people benefit through the medical services of SEESHA, Which fulfills, the vision of the founder Dr. Paul Dhinakaran to reach the poor and marginalized through innovative health care programs.

This hospital was established earlier with a vision to serve the village people at Karunya Nagar in Coimbatore. Rapid improvements were made in the infrastructure, quality of medical care, and medical equipment of the hospital to improve the standard and quality of the medical care provided to the poor and needy people. This is a 30 bed hospital. During the last 9 months, several laparoscopic and endoscopic urology surgeries were carried out in addition to advanced general surgical procedures like video inguinal block dissection for cancer. The average outpatient number is about 150 per day. More than 25,000 people are benefitted through the good laboratory with semi-automatic analyzers {for a wide variety of tests}, x - rays and ultrasound examinations are available. The Hospital management system is computerized. All the records of every patient are digitalized. The staff and students of Karunya University work with SEESHA to enhance the services that are offered to improve the quality of care. Several studies are being carried out with the help of the University. Dental care, Physiotherapy and rehabilitation care are also provided at the hospital.

DIAGNOSTIC CAMPS:

All the diagnostic facilities such as entire laboratory investigations, ultrasound examination, diagnostic scopes, are available in these diagnostic camps. These camps are conducted mainly in the interior rural areas for the benefit of the poor patients who could not avail medical care easily. They are organized in the nearby villages, mission fields, through various Churches in rural areas in the North and Northeast India.

The objectives of these camps are:

  • To provide medical care to poor people in remote areas
  • To refer them to – KRCH or nearby mission hospital for treatment

These camps are conducted as screening camps. The patients who are identified with chronic problems and who need regular hospital visits, further investigations, surgical and other interventions at the hospital are advised to come to the hospital to get the treatment by availing FREE LIFETIME CONSULTATION CARD. The photographs of the patients with their social and medical information are sent to SEESHA to help them to find sponsors for treatment of these patients through the Person to Person support plan.

SURGICAL CAMPS

SEESHA KRCH team also works with many mission hospitals to improve the quality and variety of services offered at these hospitals by organizing surgical camps. The mission hospitals at Thadagam and, Anaikatti in Tamil Nadu, Bethesda Hospital in Aizawl in Mizoram, Bethel Hospital at Kohima in Nagaland, Croft memorial hospital and St. Ann hospital at New Bongaigaon, Tukhrajar in Assam, etc... are places where Seesha KRCH team organize regular surgical camps. In these surgical camps laparoscopic and endoscopic surgeries are performed.

RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES

SEESHA SPONSORED RESEARCH

Prototypes for new advanced safe patient care products like vacuum therapy for non- healing wounds, (ulcers) vaporization of the prostate using normal saline were designed and successfully used at the hospital. Several other research projects are going on in collaboration with students of Bio medical engineering, IT and other departments of the Karunya University.

LOW COST VACUUM THERAPY UNIT FOR NON HEALING WOUNDS

Vacuum therapy is a recent innovation in treatment of non-healing wounds (Ulcers). However the equipment used for such therapy is very expensive. SEESHA and Karunya University was able to produce a low cost unit that is being successfully used for treatment of non-healing wounds.

LOW COST RESPIRATORY RATE MONITOR WITH WIRELESS CONNECTIVITY

Monitoring respiratory rate is very important especially in post-operative patients. The monitors that are available for this are very expensive and are part of a multi parameter monitors only. SEESHA and KU {Karunya University} worked together to produce a low cost monitor which also has wireless connectivity.

TURP/TVP WITH NORMAL SALINE

The disadvantage of using Glycerin or water is that they are the causes of some of the complications of surgery due to dilution of sodium in the blood due to absorption. Using normal saline would prevent this complication and SEESHA helped in designing the modification of Bi TUR which makes the surgery possible using normal saline. This facility is available only in few centers. Special electrodes for the minimally invasive and safe vaporization surgeries using saline was also developed and used successfully at KRCH.

VESSEL SEALING SYSTEM

With this method both for open and laparoscopic surgeries there is no need to use sutures to control bleeding. With this special system of sealing blood vessels there is no bleeding. Healing is excellent as there is no foreign body. This expensive machine is available here at KRCH.

VIDEO INGUINAL BLOCK DISSECTION

Inguinal block dissection for Cancer of the Penis has high morbidity due to lymph leak and large incisions. With the use of laparoscopic instruments and vessel sealing system there is no wound infection or lymph leak. SEESHA team is the 8th team to perform this surgery in the world.

NABH {National Accreditation Board for Hospitals} HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE

SEESHA and the students of IT and Computer Sciences department of Karunya University are in the process of preparing a web based software incorporating the NABH standards which very useful in managing hospitals {including the accounts}.
